সেই দিন যিরূশালেমস্থ মণ্ডলীর প্রতি বড়ই তাড়না উপস্থিত হইল, তাহাতে প্রেরিতবর্গ ছাড়া অন্য সকলে যিহূদিয়ার ও শমরিয়ার জনপদে ছিন্নভিন্ন হইয়া পড়িল।

Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

আর কয়েক জন ভক্ত লোক স্তিফানের কবর দিলেন, ও তাঁহার নিমিত্ত মহাবিলাপ করিলেন।

Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.

কিন্তু শৌল মণ্ডলীর উচ্ছেদ সাধন করিতে লাগিলেন, ঘরে ঘরে প্রবেশ করিয়া পুরুষ ও স্ত্রীলোকদিগকে টানিয়া আনিয়া কারাগারে সমর্পণ করিতে লাগিলেন।

But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house, and dragged both men and women off to prison.

তখন যাহারা ছিন্নভিন্ন হইয়াছিল, তাহারা চারিদিকে ভ্রমণ করিয়া সুসমাচারের বাক্য প্রচার করিল।

Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.

আর ফিলিপ শমরিয়ার নগরে গিয়া লোকদের কাছে খ্রীষ্টকে প্রচার করিতে লাগিলেন।

Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed to them the Christ.

আর লোকসমূহ ফিলিপের কথা শুনিয়া ও তাঁহার কৃত চিহ্ন-কার্য্য সকল দেখিয়া একচিত্তে তাঁহার কথায় অবধান করিল।

The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did.

কারণ অশুচি আত্মাবিষ্ট অনেক লোক হইতে সেই সকল আত্মা উচ্চৈঃস্বরে চেঁচাইয়া বাহির হইয়া আসিল, এবং অনেক পক্ষাঘাতী ও খঞ্জ সুস্থ হইল;

For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.

তাহাতে ঐ নগরে বড়ই আনন্দ হইল।

There was great joy in that city.

কিন্তু শিমোন নামে এক ব্যক্তি ছিল, সে পূর্ব্বাবধি সেই নগরে যাদুক্রিয়া করিত ও শমরীয় জাতিকে চমৎকৃত করিত, আপনাকে এক জন মহাপুরুষ বলিত;

But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to practice sorcery in the city, and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,

তাহার কথায় ছোট বড় সকলে অবধান করিত, বলিত, এ ব্যক্তি ঈশ্বরের সেই শক্তি, যাহা মহতী নামে আখ্যাত।

to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that great power of God."

তাহারা যে তাহার কথায় অবধান করিত, তাহার কারণ এই যে, বহুকাল অবধি সে আপন যাদুক্রিয়া দ্বারা তাহাদিগকে চমৎকৃত করিয়া আসিতেছিল।

They listened to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.

কিন্তু ফিলিপ ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য ও যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নাম বিষয়ক সুসমাচার প্রচার করিলে তাহারা যখন তাঁহার কথায় বিশ্বাস করিল, তখন পুরুষ ও স্ত্রীলোকেরাও বাপ্তাইজিত হইতে লাগিল।

But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

আর শিমোন আপনিও বিশ্বাস করিল, এবং বাপ্তাইজিত হইয়া ফিলিপের সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই থাকিল; আর অনেক চিহ্ন-কার্য্য ও মহাপরাক্রমের কার্য্য সাধিত হইতেছে দেখিয়া চমৎকৃত হইল।

Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occuring, he was amazed.

যিরূশালেমে প্রেরিতগণ যখন শুনিতে পাইলেন যে শমরীয়েরা ঈশ্বরের বাক্য গ্রহণ করিয়াছে, তখন তাঁহারা পিতর ও যোহনকে তাহাদের নিকটে প্রেরণ করিলেন।

Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
15
তাঁহারা আসিয়া তাহাদের নিমিত্ত প্রার্থনা করিলেন, যেন তাহারা পবিত্র আত্মা পায়;
15
who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
16
কেননা এ পর্য্যন্ত তাহাদের কাহারও উপরে পবিত্র আত্মা পতিত হন নাই; কেবল তাহারা প্রভু যীশুর নামে বাপ্তাইজিত হইয়াছিল।

for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of Christ Jesus.

তখন তাঁহারা তাহাদের উপরে হস্তার্পণ করিলেন, আর তাহারা পবিত্র আত্মা পাইল।

Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18
আর শিমোন যখন দেখিল, প্রেরিতদের হস্তার্পণ দ্বারা পবিত্র আত্মা দত্ত হইতেছেন, তখন সে তাঁহাদের নিকটে টাকা আনিয়া কহিল,

Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,
19
আমাকেও এই ক্ষমতা দিউন, যেন আমি যাহার উপরে হস্তার্পণ করিব, সে পবিত্র আত্মা পায়।
19
saying, "Give me also this power, that whoever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."
20
কিন্তু পিতর তাহাকে বলিলেন, তোমার রৌপ্য তোমার সঙ্গে বিনষ্ট হউক, কেননা ঈশ্বরের দান তুমি টাকা দিয়া ক্রয় করিতে মনস্থ করিয়াছ।

But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
21
এই বিষয়ে তোমার অংশ কি অধিকার কিছুই নাই; কারণ তোমার হৃদয় ঈশ্বরের সাক্ষাতে সরল নয়।
21
You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart isn't right before God.
22
অতএব তোমার এই দুষ্টতা হইতে মন ফিরাও; এবং প্রভুর কাছে বিনতি কর, কি জানি, তোমার হৃদয়ের কল্পনার ক্ষমা হইলেও হইতে পারে;

Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
23
কেননা আমি দেখিতেছি, তুমি কটুভাবরূপ পিত্তে ও অধর্ম্মরূপ বন্ধনে পড়িয়া রহিয়াছ।

For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."
24
তখন শিমোন উত্তর করিয়া কহিল, আপনারাই আমার জন্য প্রভুর কাছে বিনতি করুন, যেন আপনারা যাহা যাহা বলিলেন, তাহার কিছুই আমার প্রতি না ঘটে।

Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken happen to me."
25
পরে তাঁহারা সাক্ষ্য দিয়া ও প্রভুর বাক্য বলিয়া যিরূশালেমে ফিরিয়া যাইতে যাইতে শমরীয়দের অনেক গ্রামে সুসমাচার প্রচার করিলেন।

They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

পরে প্রভুর এক দূত ফিলিপকে এই কথা কহিলেন, উঠ, দক্ষিণ দিকে, যে পথ যিরূশালেম হইতে ঘসার দিকে নামিয়া গিয়াছে, সেই পথে যাও; সেই স্থান প্রান্তর।

But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert."

তাহাতে তিনি উঠিয়া গমন করিলেন। আর দেখ, ইথিয়পিয়া দেশের এক ব্যক্তি, ইথিয়পীয়দের কান্দাকি রাণীর অধীন উচ্চপদস্থ এক জন নপুংসক, যিনি রাণীর সমস্ত ধনকোষের অধ্যক্ষ ছিলেন, তিনি ভজনা করিবার জন্য যিরূশালেমে আসিয়াছিলেন;

He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.

পরে ফিরিয়া যাইতেছিলেন, এবং আপন রথে বসিয়া যিশাইয় ভাববাদীর গ্রন্থ পাঠ করিতেছিলেন।

He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.

তখন আত্মা ফিলিপকে কহিলেন, নিকটে যাও, ঐ রথের সঙ্গ ধর।

The Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot."
30
তাহাতে ফিলিপ দৌড়িয়া নিকটে গিয়া শুনিলেন, তিনি যিশাইয় ভাববাদীর গ্রন্থ পাঠ করিতেছেন; ফিলিপ কহিলেন, আপনি যাহা পাঠ করিতেছেন, তাহা কি বুঝিতে পারিতেছেন?

Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"

তিনি কহিলেন, কেহ আমাকে বুঝাইয়া না দিলে কেমন করিয়া বুঝিতে পারিব? পরে তিনি ফিলিপকে আপনার কাছে উঠিয়া বসিতে নিবেদন করিলেন।

He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.

শাস্ত্রের যে কথা তিনি পড়িতেছিলেন, তাহা এই, “তিনি হত হইবার জন্য মেষের ন্যায় নীত হইলেন, এবং লোমচ্ছেদকের সম্মুখে মেষশাবক যেমন নীরব থাকে, সেইরূপ তিনি মুখ খুলেন না।

Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, So he doesn't open his mouth.

তাঁহার হীনাবস্থায় তাঁহার সম্বন্ধীয় বিচার অপনীত হইল, তাঁহার সমকালীন লোকদের বর্ণনা কে করিতে পারে? যেহেতুক তাঁহার জীবন পৃথিবী হইতে অপনীত হইল।”

In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth."

নপুংসক উত্তর করিয়া ফিলিপকে বলিলেন, নিবেদন করি, ভাববাদী কাহার বিষয়ে এই কথা কহেন? নিজের বিষয়ে, না অন্য কাহারও বিষয়ে?

The eunuch answered Philip, "Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?"

তখন ফিলিপ মুখ খুলিয়া শাস্ত্রের সেই বচন হইতে আরম্ভ করিয়া তাঁহার কাছে যীশু-বিষয়ক সুসমাচার প্রচার করিলেন।

Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Jesus.

পরে পথে যাইতে যাইতে তাঁহারা কোন এক জলাশয়ের নিকটে উপস্থিত হইলেন; তখন নপুংসক কহিলেন, এই দেখুন, জল আছে; আমার বাপ্তাইজিত হইবার বাধা কি?

As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?"

পরে তিনি রথ থামাইতে আজ্ঞা করিলেন, আর ফিলিপ ও নপুংসক উভয়ে জলমধ্যে নামিলেন এবং ফিলিপ তাঁহাকে বাপ্তাইজ করিলেন।

আর যখন তাঁহারা জলের মধ্য হইতে উঠিলেন, তখন প্রভুর আত্মা ফিলিপকে হরণ করিয়া লইয়া গেলেন, এবং নপুংসক আর তাঁহাকে দেখিতে পাইলেন না, ফলে তিনি আনন্দ করিতে করিতে আপন পথে চলিয়া গেলেন।

He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

কিন্তু ফিলিপকে অস্দোদে দেখিতে পাওয়া গেল; আর তিনি নগরে নগরে ভ্রমণ করিয়া সুসমাচার প্রচার করিতে করিতে শেষে কৈসরিয়াতে উপস্থিত হইলেন।

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn't see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.

But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the gospel to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.
