1এখন প্রিয়তমেরা, আমি এই দ্বিতীয় পত্র তোমাদিগকে লিখিতেছি। উভয় পত্রে তোমাদিগকে স্মরণ করাইয়া দিয়া তোমাদের সরল চিত্তকে জাগ্রত করিতেছি,
1This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you;
2যেন তোমরা পবিত্র ভাববাদিগণ কর্ত্তৃক পূর্ব্বকথিত বাক্য সকল, এবং তোমাদের প্রেরিতগণের দ্বারা দত্ত ত্রাণকর্ত্তা প্রভুর আজ্ঞা স্মরণ কর।
2that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:
3প্রথমে ইহা জ্ঞাত হও যে, শেষকালে উপহাসের সহিত উপহাসকেরা উপস্থিত হইবে; তাহারা আপন আপন অভিলাষ অনুসারে চলিবে,
3knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts,
4এবং বলিবে, তাঁহার আগমনের প্রতিজ্ঞা কোথায়? কেননা যে অবধি পিতৃলোকেরা নিদ্রাগত হইয়াছেন, সেই অবধি সমস্তই সৃষ্টির আরম্ভ অবধি যেমন, তেমনই রহিয়াছে।
4and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."
5বস্তুতঃ সেই লোকেরা ইচ্ছাপূর্ব্বক ইহা ভুলিয়া যায় যে, আকাশমণ্ডল, এবং জল হইতে ও জল দ্বারা স্থিতিপ্রাপ্ত পৃথিবী ঈশ্বরের বাক্যের গুণে প্রাক্কালে ছিল;
5For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God;
6তদ্দ্বারা তখনকার জগৎ জলে আপ্লাবিত হইয়া নষ্ট হইয়াছিল।
6by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.
7আবার সেই বাক্যের গুণে এই বর্ত্তমান কালের আকাশমণ্ডল ও পৃথিবী অগ্নির নিমিত্ত সঞ্চিত রহিয়াছে, ভক্তিহীন মনুষ্যদের বিচার ও বিনাশের দিন পর্য্যন্ত রক্ষিত হইতেছে।
7But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8কিন্তু প্রিয়তমেরা, তোমরা এই কথা ভুলিও না যে, প্রভুর কাছে এক দিন সহস্র বৎসরের সমান, এবং সহস্র বৎসর এক দিনের সমান।
8But don't forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9প্রভু নিজ প্রতিজ্ঞা বিষয়ে দীর্ঘসূত্রী নহেন—যেমন কেহ কেহ দীর্ঘসূত্রিতা জ্ঞান করে—কিন্তু তোমাদের পক্ষে তিনি দীর্ঘসহিষ্ণু; কতকগুলি লোক যে বিনষ্ট হয়, এমন বাসনা তাঁহার নাই; বরং সকলে যেন মনপরিবর্ত্তন পর্য্যন্ত পঁহুছিতে পায়, এই তাঁহার বাসনা।
9The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10কিন্তু প্রভুর দিন চোরের ন্যায় আসিবে; তখন আকাশমণ্ডল হূহূ শব্দ করিয়া উড়িয়া যাইবে, এবং মূলবস্তু সকল পুড়িয়া গিয়া বিলীন হইবে, এবং পৃথিবী ও তাহার মধ্যবর্ত্তী কার্য্য সকল পুড়িয়া যাইবে।
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
11এইরূপে যখন এই সমস্তই বিলীন হইবে, তখন পবিত্র আচার ব্যবহার ও ভক্তিতে কিরূপ লোক হওয়া তোমাদের উচিত!
11Therefore since all these things are thus to be destroyed, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
12ঈশ্বরের সেই দিনের আগমনের অপেক্ষা ও আকাঙ্ক্ষা করিতে করিতে সেইরূপ হওয়া চাই, যে দিনের হেতু আকাশমণ্ডল জ্বলিয়া বিলীন হইবে, এবং মূলবস্তু সকল পুড়িয়া গিয়া গলিয়া যাইবে।
12looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13কিন্তু তাঁহার প্রতিজ্ঞা অনুসারে আমরা এমন নূতন আকাশমণ্ডলের ও নূতন পৃথিবীর অপেক্ষায় আছি, যাহার মধ্যে ধার্ম্মিকতা বসতি করে।
13But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness.
14অতএব, প্রিয়তমেরা, তোমরা যখন এই সকলের অপেক্ষা করিতেছ, তখন যত্ন কর, যেন তাঁহার কাছে তোমাদিগকে নিষ্কলঙ্ক ও নির্দ্দোষ অবস্থায় শান্তিতে দেখিতে পাওয়া যায়!
14Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in his sight.
15আর আমাদের প্রভুর দীর্ঘসহিষ্ণুতাকে পরিত্রাণ জ্ঞান কর; যেমন আমাদের প্রিয় ভ্রাতা পৌলও তাঁহাকে দত্ত জ্ঞান অনুসারে তোমাদিগকে লিখিয়াছেন,
15Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you;
16আর যেমন তাঁহার সকল পত্রেও এই বিষয়ের প্রসঙ্গ করিয়া তিনি এই প্রকার কথা কহেন; তাহার মধ্যে কোন কোন কথা বুঝা কষ্টকর; অজ্ঞান ও চঞ্চল লোকেরা যেমন অন্য সমস্ত শাস্ত্রলিপি, তেমনি সেই কথাগুলিরও বিরূপ অর্থ করে, আপনাদেরই বিনাশার্থে করে।
16as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17অতএব, প্রিয়তমেরা, তোমরা এ সকল অগ্রে জানিয়া সাবধান থাক, পাছে ধর্ম্মহীনদের ভ্রান্তিতে আকর্ষিত হইয়া নিজ স্থিরতা হইতে ভ্রষ্ট হও;
17You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
18কিন্তু আমাদের প্রভু ও ত্রাণকর্ত্তা যীশু খ্রীষ্টের অনুগ্রহ ও জ্ঞানে বর্দ্ধিষ্ণু হও। এখন ও অনন্তকাল পর্য্যন্ত তাঁহার গৌরব হউক। আমেন।
18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
