1পরে অবিয় আপন পিতৃলোকদের সহিত নিদ্রাগত হইলেন; এবং দায়ূদ-নগরে তাঁহার কবর হইল। আর তাঁহার পুত্র আসা তাঁহার পদে রাজা হইলেন; তাঁহার সময়ে দেশ দশ বৎসর সুস্থির থাকিল।
1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2আসা আপন ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যাহা ভাল ও ন্যায্য, তাহাই করিতেন;
2Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of Yahweh his God:
3তিনি বিজাতীয় যজ্ঞবেদি ও উচ্চস্থলী সকল উঠাইয়া ফেলিলেন, স্তম্ভ সকল খণ্ড খণ্ড করিলেন ও আশেরা-মূর্ত্তি সকল ছেদন করিলেন;
3for he took away the foreign altars, and the high places, and broke down the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim,
4আর তিনি যিহূদার লোকদিগকে তাহাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর অন্বেষণ এবং [তাঁহার] ব্যবস্থা ও আজ্ঞা পালন করিতে আদেশ করিলেন।
4and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5আর তিনি যিহূদার সমস্ত নগরের মধ্য হইতে উচ্চস্থলী ও সূর্য্য-প্রতিমা সকল উঠাইয়া ফেলিলেন; আর তাঁহার সম্মুখে রাজ্য সুস্থির হইল।
5Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6আর তিনি যিহূদা দেশে প্রাচীরবেষ্টিত কতকগুলি নগর গাঁথিলেন, কেননা দেশ সুস্থির ছিল, এবং কয়েক বৎসর পর্য্যন্ত কেহ তাঁহার সহিত যুদ্ধ করিল না, কারণ সদাপ্রভু তাঁহাকে বিশ্রাম দিয়াছিলেন।
6He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.
7অতএব তিনি যিহূদাকে কহিলেন, আইস, আমরা এই সকল নগর গাঁথি এবং এই সকলের চারিদিকে প্রাচীর, দুর্গ, দ্বার ও অর্গল নির্ম্মাণ করি; দেশ ত অদ্যাপি আমাদের সম্মুখে আছে; কেননা আমরা আপনাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর অন্বেষণ করিয়াছি, আমরা তাঁহার অন্বেষণ করিয়াছি, আর তিনি সকল দিকে আমাদিগকে বিশ্রাম দিয়াছেন। এইরূপে তাহারা নগরগুলি গাঁথিয়া কুশলে সমাপ্ত করিল।
7For he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8আসার ঢাল ও বড়শাধারী অনেক সৈন্য ছিল, যিহূদার তিন লক্ষ ও বিন্যামীনের ঢাল ও ধনুর্ধারী দুই লক্ষ আশী সহস্র; তাহারা সকলে বলবান বীর ছিল।
8Asa had an army that bore bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred eighty thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.
9পরে কূশদেশীয় সেরহ দশ লক্ষ সৈন্য ও তিন শত রথ সঙ্গে লইয়া তাহাদের বিরুদ্ধে বাহির হইলেন ও মারেশা পর্য্যন্ত আসিলেন।
9There came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a million troops, and three hundred chariots; and he came to Mareshah.
10তাহাতে আসা তাঁহার বিরুদ্ধে বাহির হইয়া আসিলেন। উহারা মারেশার নিকটস্থ সফাথা উপত্যকায় সৈন্য রচনা করিল।
10Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11তখন আসা আপন ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে ডাকিলেন, কহিলেন, হে সদাপ্রভু, তুমি ছাড়া এমন আর কেহ নাই, যে বলবানের ও বলহীনের মধ্যে সাহায্য করে; হে আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু, আমাদের সাহায্য কর; কেননা আমরা তোমার উপরে নির্ভর করি, এবং তোমারই নামে এই জন-সমারোহের বিরুদ্ধে আসিয়াছি। হে সদাপ্রভু, তুমি আমাদের ঈশ্বর, তোমার বিরুদ্ধে মর্ত্ত্য প্রবল না হউক।
11Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, Yahweh, there is none besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength: help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God; don't let man prevail against you.
12তখন সদাপ্রভু আসার ও যিহূদার সম্মুখে কূশীয়দিগকে আঘাত করিলেন, আর কূশীয়েরা পলায়ন করিল।
12So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13আর আসা ও তাঁহার সঙ্গী লোকেরা গরার পর্য্যন্ত তাহাদের পশ্চাতে পশ্চাতে তাড়া করিয়া চলিলেন, তাহাতে এক কূশীয় পতিত হইল যে, আর তাহারা সবল হইয়া উঠিতে পারিল না; কারণ সদাপ্রভুর ও তাঁহার সৈন্যের সম্মুখে আহারা ভগ্ন হইয়া পড়িল; এবং লোকেরা অতি প্রচুর লুট দ্রব্য লইয়া আসিল।
13Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Yahweh, and before his host; and they carried away very much booty.
14আর তাহারা গরারের চারিদিকে সমস্ত নগরকে আঘাত করিল, কেননা সদাপ্রভুর ভয় উহাদের উপরে পড়িয়াছিল; আরও তাহারা সেই সমস্ত নগর লুট করিল, কেননা সেই সকল নগরে প্রচুর লুট দ্রব্য ছিল।
14They struck all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of Yahweh came on them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them.
15আর তাহারা পশুচারকদের তাম্বু সকলেও আঘাত করিল, এবং বিস্তর মেঘ ও উষ্ট্র লইয়া যিরূশালেমে ফিরিয়া আসিল।
15They struck also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep in abundance, and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
