1পরে অম্মোনীয় নাহশ আসিয়া যাবেশ-গিলিয়দের সম্মুখে শিবির স্থাপন করিলেন; আর যাবেশের সমস্ত লোক নাহশকে কহিল, আপনি আমাদের সহিত নিয়ম স্থির করুন; আমরা আপনার দাস হইব।
1Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh Gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.
2অম্মোনীয় নাহশ তাহাদিগকে এই উত্তর দিলেন, আমি এই পণে তোমাদের সহিত নিয়ম স্থির করিব যে, তোমাদের সকলের দক্ষিণ চক্ষু উৎপাটন করিতে হইবে, এবং তদ্দ্বারা আমি সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলে কলঙ্ক লাগাইব।
2Nahash the Ammonite said to them, On this condition will I make it with you, that all your right eyes be put out; and I will lay it for a reproach on all Israel.
3তখন যাবেশের প্রাচীনবর্গ কহিলেন, আপনি সাত দিবস আমাদের প্রতি ক্ষান্ত থাকুন; আমরা ইস্রায়েল দেশের সকল অঞ্চলে দূত প্রেরণ করি; তাহাতে কেহ যদি আমাদিগকে নিস্তার না করে, তবে আমরা বাহির হইয়া আপনার নিকটে যাইব।
3The elders of Jabesh said to him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers to all the borders of Israel; and then, if there be none to save us, we will come out to you.
4পরে দূতগণ শৌলের [বাসস্থান] গিবিয়ায় আসিয়া লোকদের কর্ণগোচরে ঐ কথা কহিল, তাহাতে সমস্ত লোক উচ্চৈঃস্বরে রোদন করিতে লাগিল।
4Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and spoke these words in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5পরে দেখ, শৌল ক্ষেত্র হইতে বলদের পশ্চাতে পশ্চাতে আসিতেছেন। শৌল জিজ্ঞাসা করিলেন, লোকদের কি হইয়াছে? উহারা কেন রোদন করিতেছে? লোকেরা যাবেশের লোকদের কথা তাঁহাকে কহিল।
5Behold, Saul came following the oxen out of the field; and Saul said, What ails the people that they weep? They told him the words of the men of Jabesh.
6ঐ কথা শুনিলে পর ঈশ্বরের আত্মা শৌলের উপরে সবলে আসিলেন, এবং তাঁহার ক্রোধ অতিশয় প্রজ্বলিত হইয়া উঠিল।
6The Spirit of God came mightily on Saul when he heard those words, and his anger was kindled greatly.
7আর তিনি এক জোড়া বলদ লইয়া খণ্ড খণ্ড করিয়া ঐ দূতগণ দ্বারা ইস্রায়েল দেশের সকল অঞ্চলে পাঠাইয়া দিয়া কহিলেন, যে কেহ শৌলের ও শমূয়েলের পশ্চাতে বাহিরে না আসিবে, তাহার বদল সকলের প্রতি এইরূপ করা যাইবে; তাহাতে সদাপ্রভুর প্রতি লোকদের ভয় উপস্থিত হওয়াতে তাহারা এক মনুষ্যের ন্যায় বাহির হইল।
7He took a yoke of oxen, and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, Whoever doesn't come forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen. The dread of Yahweh fell on the people, and they came out as one man.
8পরে তিনি বেষকে তাহাদিগকে গণনা করিলেন; তাহাতে ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণের তিন লক্ষ ও যিহূদার ত্রিশ সহস্র লোক হইল।
8He numbered them in Bezek; and the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
9পরে তাহারা সেই আগত দূতগণকে কহিল, তোমরা যাবেশ-গিলিয়দের লোকদিগকে বলিবে, কল্য প্রখর রৌদ্রের সময়ে তোমরা উদ্ধার পাইবে। তখন দূতগণ আসিয়া যাবেশের লোকদিগকে ঐ সমাচার দিল, ও তাহারা আনন্দিত হইল।
9They said to the messengers who came, Thus shall you tell the men of Jabesh Gilead, Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have deliverance. The messengers came and told the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
10পরে যাবেশের লোকেরা [নাহশকে] কহিল, কল্য আমরা আপনাদের কাছে বাহির হইয়া যাইব; আপনাদের দৃষ্টিতে যাহা ভাল বোধ হয়, আমাদের প্রতি তাহাই করিবেন।
10Therefore the men of Jabesh said, Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you shall do with us all that seems good to you.
11পর দিবসে শৌল আপন লোকদিগকে তিন দল করিয়া প্রভাতীয় প্রহরে [শত্রুদের] শিবিরমধ্যে আসিয়া প্রচণ্ড রৌদ্র পর্য্যন্ত অম্মোনীয়দিগকে সংহার করিলেন; আর তাহাদের অবশিষ্ট লোকেরা এমন ছিন্নভিন্ন হইল যে, তাহাদের দুই জন এক স্থানে থাকিল না।
11It was so on the next day, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and struck the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it happened, that those who remained were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
12পরে লোকেরা শমূয়েলকে কহিল, কে বলিয়াছে, শৌল কি আমাদের উপরে রাজা হইবে? সেই লোকদিগকে আন, আমরা তাহাদিগকে বধ করি।
12The people said to Samuel, Who is he who said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.
13কিন্তু শৌল কহিলেন, অদ্য কাহারও প্রাণদণ্ড হইবে না, কেননা অদ্য সদাপ্রভু ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে নিস্তার সাধন করিলেন।
13Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day; for today Yahweh has worked deliverance in Israel.
14পরে শমূয়েল লোকদিগকে কহিলেন, চল, আমরা গিল্‌গলে গিয়া সেখানে রাজত্ব পুনর্ব্বার স্থির করি।
14Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
15তাহাতে সমস্ত লোক গিল্‌গলে গিয়া সেই গিল্‌গলে সদাপ্রভুর সম্মুখে শৌলকে রাজা করিল, এবং সে স্থানে সদাপ্রভুর সম্মুখে মঙ্গলার্থক বলি উৎসর্গ করিল; আর সে স্থানে শৌল ও ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত লোক মহা আনন্দ করিল।
15All the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before Yahweh in Gilgal; and there they offered sacrifices of peace-offerings before Yahweh; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
