আর গিলিয়দ-প্রবাসীদের মধ্যবর্ত্তী তিশ্বীয় এলিয় আহাবকে কহিলেন, আমি যাঁহার সাক্ষাতে দণ্ডায়মান, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সেই জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্য, এই কয়েক বৎসর শিশির কি বৃষ্টি পড়িবে না; কেবল আমার কথানুসারে পড়িবে।

Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the foreigners of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

পরে তাঁহার নিকটে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য উপস্থিত হইল,

The word of Yahweh came to him, saying,

তুমি এই স্থান হইতে প্রস্থান করিয়া পূর্ব্বদিকে যাও, এবং যর্দ্দনের সম্মুখস্থ করীৎ স্রোতের ধারে লুকাইয়া থাক।

Get you hence, and turn you eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

সে স্থানে তুমি স্রোতের জল পান করিতে পাইবে, আর আমি কাকদিগকে তোমার খাদ্য দ্রব্য যোগাইবার আজ্ঞা দিয়াছি।

It shall be, that you shall drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

তখন তিনি গিয়া সদাপ্রভুর বাক্যানুসারে কর্ম্ম করিলেন, যর্দ্দনের সম্মুখস্থ করীৎ স্রোতের ধারে গিয়া অবস্থিতি করিলেন।

So he went and did according to the word of Yahweh; for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

আর কাকেরা তাঁহার জন্য প্রাতঃকালে রুটী ও মাংস, এবং সন্ধ্যাকালেও রুটী ও মাংস আনিয়া দিত; আর তিনি স্রোতের জল পান করিতেন।

The ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

কিছু কাল পরে দেশে বৃষ্টি না হওয়াতে ঐ স্রোত শুষ্ক হইয়া গেল।

It happened after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

পরে তাঁহার নিকটে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য উপস্থিত হইল,

The word of Yahweh came to him, saying,
9
তুমি উঠ, সীদোনের অন্তঃপাতী সারিফতে গিয়া সেখানে বাস কর; দেখ, আমি তথায় এক বিধবাকে তোমার খাদ্য দ্রব্য যোগাইবার আজ্ঞা দিয়াছি।

Arise, get you to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.

তখন তিনি উঠিয়া সারিফতে যাত্রা করিলেন; আর যখন সেই নগরের দ্বারে উপস্থিত হইলেন, দেখ, সেই স্থানে এক বিধবা কাষ্ঠ কুড়াইতেছে। তিনি তাহাকে ডাকিয়া কহিলেন, বিনয় করি, তুমি একটী পাত্রে করিয়া কিঞ্চিৎ জল আন, আমি পান করিব।

So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Please get me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11
সে স্ত্রীলোকটী তাহা আনিতে যাইতেছে, ইতিমধ্যে তিনি তাহাকে ডাকিয়া কহিলেন, বিনয় করি, আমার জন্য এক খণ্ড রুটী হাতে করিয়া আনিও।

As she was going to get it, he called to her, and said, Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

সে কহিল, তোমার ঈশ্বর জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্য, আমার ঘরে একটী পিষ্টকও নাই; কেবল জালায় এক মুষ্টি ময়দা ও ভাঁড়ে কিঞ্চিৎ তৈল আছে; আর দেখ, আমি খান দুই কাষ্ঠ কুড়াইতেছি, তাহা লইয়া গিয়া আমার ও আমার ছেলেটীর জন্য উহা পাক করিব; পরে আমরা তাহা খাইয়া মরিব।

She said, As Yahweh your God lives, I don't have a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the jar: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13
এলিয় তাহাকে কহিলেন, ভয় করিও না; যাহা বলিলে, তাহা কর গিয়া, কিন্তু প্রথমে তাহা হইতে আমার জন্য একটী ক্ষুদ্র পিষ্টক প্রস্তুত করিয়া আন; পরে আপনার ও ছেলেটীর জন্য প্রস্তুত করিও।

Elijah said to her, Don't be afraid; go and do as you have said; but make me of it a little cake first, and bring it forth to me, and afterward make for you and for your son.
14
কেননা ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু এই কথা কহেন, যে দিন পর্য্যন্ত সদাপ্রভু ভূতলে বৃষ্টি না দেন, সেই দিন পর্য্যন্ত তোমার ময়দার জালা শূন্য হইবে না, ও তৈলের ভাঁড় শুকাইয়া যাইবে না।

For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not empty, neither shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the earth.
15
তাহাতে সে গিয়া এলিয়ের বাক্যানুসারে করিল; আর সে এবং এলিয়, এবং সেই স্ত্রীলোকের পরিজন অনেক দিন পর্য্যন্ত ভোজন করিল।

She went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, ate many days.
16
সদাপ্রভু এলিয়ের দ্বারা যে বাক্য বলিয়াছিলেন, তদনুসারে ঐ ময়দার জালা শূন্য হইল না, তৈলের ভাঁড়ও শুকাইল না।

The jar of meal didn't empty, neither did the jar of oil fail, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spoke by Elijah.
17
এই সকল ঘটনার পরে সেই স্ত্রীলোকের, সেই গৃহস্বামিনীর, পুত্র পীড়িত হইল, এবং তাহার পীড়া এমন উৎকট হইল যে, তাহার শরীরে আর শ্বাসবায়ু রহিল না।

It happened after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18
তখন স্ত্রীলোকটী এলিয়কে কহিল, হে ঈশ্বরের লোক, আপনার সহিত আমার বিষয় কি? আপনি আমার অপরাধ স্মরণ করাইতে ও আমার পুত্রকে মারিয়া ফেলিতে আমার এখানে আসিয়াছেন।

She said to Elijah, What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!
19
তিনি তাহাকে কহিলেন, তোমার পুত্রটী আমাকে দেও। পরে তিনি তাহার ক্রোড় হইতে ছেলেটীকে লইয়া উপরে আপনার থাকিবার কুঠরীতে গিয়া আপন শয্যায় শোয়াইয়া দিলেন।

He said to her, Give me your son. He took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the chamber, where he abode, and laid him on his own bed.
20
আর তিনি সদাপ্রভুকে ডাকিয়া কহিলেন, হে সদাপ্রভু, আমার ঈশ্বর, আমি যে বিধবার বাটীতে প্রবাস করিতেছি, তুমি কি তাহার পুত্রকে মারিয়া ফেলিয়া তাহারও উপরে অমঙ্গল উপস্থিত করিলে?

He cried to Yahweh, and said, Yahweh my God, have you also brought evil on the widow with whom I sojourn, by killing her son?
21
পরে তিনি বালকটীর উপরে তিন বার আপন শরীর লম্বমান করিয়া সদাপ্রভুকে ডাকিয়া কহিলেন, হে সদাপ্রভু, আমার ঈশ্বর, বিনয় করি, এই বালকের মধ্যে প্রাণ ফিরিয়া আসুক।

He stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to Yahweh, and said, Yahweh my God, please let this child's soul come into him again.
22
তখন সদাপ্রভু এলিয়ের রবে কর্ণপাত করিলেন, তাহাতে বালকটীর প্রাণ তাহার মধ্যে ফিরিয়া আসিল, সে পুনর্জীবিত হইল।

Yahweh listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23
পরে এলিয় বালকটীকে লইয়া উপরিস্থ কুঠরী হইতে গৃহমধ্যে নামিয়া গিয়া তাহার মাতার কাছে সমর্পণ করিলেন; আর এলিয় কহিলেন, দেখ, তোমার পুত্র জীবিত।

Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, Behold, your son lives.
24
তাহাতে সে স্ত্রী এলিয়কে কহিল, এখন আমি জানিতে পারিলাম, আপনি ঈশ্বরের লোক, এবং সদাপ্রভুর যে বাক্য আপনার মুখে আছে, তাহা সত্য।

The woman said to Elijah, Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of Yahweh in your mouth is truth.
